Maternity Photo shoot!

It's no secret that I LOVE baby bumps. There is something about the fullness of a pregnant woman  that is beautiful and fascinating. While it is challenging to grow a human from scratch, I think that it a journey that should be celebrated and documented.

Here are just a few photos from a session I had with Nancy Tait from Joyful Images. I am SO pleased how they turned out.

In the past I have always been pregnant in the dead of winter, so it was nice to celebrate my belly in the sun!

While Nancy was photographing Nathaniel and the girls I snapped this photo of some of the apples Amelia collected.

While some people avoid the camera when they are pregnant, it is one of the few times when I feel confident in my skin.

My little blond crew.

I bought this skirt ages ago from value village and it still sings to me,

The girls didn't waste any time jumping in the ocean afterwards- fully dressed of course!

Nate and I happily watched from the beach  :0)

Levi's birth story coming soon!

Snapshot of my day

Best thing I tasted today:
Dark chocolate bark with cashews and pink Himalayan salt from Purdy's Chocolate.

Funniest Moment:
When we were in a fancy Christmas ornament store and  I turned around and saw that Claire had attached a  HUGE feathery bird to her hair. Adorable and hilarious!

Least favorite moment:
When all three children were crying at bedtime. Amelia wanted a "bed snack" (an apple cut up in slices), Claire wanted me to cuddle with her, and Levi wanted to nurse. GAH!

Best part of the day:
Seeing Levi's naked little body wriggle with excitement when I took him in the shower with me this evening.

What I wore today:
I wore my hair in a braid that wrapped around my head like a headband, a pair of earrings I picked up in Nicaragua, a turquoise cardigan, grey flats, and a pair of capris jeans. Oh and lipstick!

Excited about:
The woven girasol wrap that I ordered this evening.  I Love the COLORS!

Pumpkin Patch

We went to our local pumpkin patch the other day with some friends and enjoyed a hay ride as well as a  meander through the corn and pumpkin fields. Claire had quite an armload of corn by the time we were done.

Our friends are expecting their first child! We are so excited for them.

It has been awhile since Nathaniel tossed Claire in the air!

Found one!

A rare family shot. I need to hand the camera to other people more often!

Changes

I have probably mentioned this before, but I am continually amazed at how little I am able to accomplish a day. For someone who is slightly obsessed with productivity, it can be torture at times. On those brief occasions when Levi takes a solid two hour nap, I try and tackle things I can't do or prefer not to do with a baby strapped to me. Stuff like painting, hauling stuff to my car, eating, washing dishes, showering....

Levi is a lot more alert and aware of his surroundings these days. While  that is wonderful for many reasons, it makes doing some things more difficult. He used to enjoy sleeping in a sling, but these days he prefers his bed. A couple weeks ago I realized that he doesn't like to be held when he is tired,  he just wants me to lay him down someplace quiet and dark. Imagine that! Thankfully, he will fall asleep in his bucket seat when we are out for a walk. Nathaniel picked up a great lightweight jogging stroller at a yard sale a month ago and Levi's bucket seat fits into it perfectly! I had planned on purchasing an infant harness for my chariot, but this arrangement will work perfectly until he can sit in the chariot on his own. I ran twice last week and it felt SO good. One of these days I will let Jillian Michael's of Thirty Day Shred start kicking my butt into gear.

At the moment I am at least twenty five pounds heavier than I normally am, but I am confident that I will get back  to my pre-pregnancy weight. My goal has always been to be fitter after having babies than I was before I had them, so I have my work cut out for me. I am planning on doing a lot of weight lifting and cardio at my gym in the months  and years to come.

I have been finding that the older I get, the more accepting I am of who I am and the body I have been given (with exception to by breasts which I have always viewed as a hindrance). While by body far from what our culture deems as perfect, but it has been so good to me. It has allowed me to carry three babies to term and deliver them without any complications, to do a 113 km triathlon, and most recently a marathon. It has seen many changes over the years, but has always been strong and dependable.

I feel as though I am in hibernation mode. Nathaniel has been so great about doing drop offs and pick up's that I haven't been required to leave the house. We take turns doing the grocery shopping and I have been to Homesense quite a few times, but other than that, I don't leave the house that much. I love it when my girlfriends drop by for a visit, as I have little desire to leave my cozy nest. While some might go loony at home, I LOVE it. I am such a homebody :0)

I feel like I have learned a lot about who I am and how I function this past year. Nathaniel and I were just laughing the other day about how different we are. He is outgoing, LOUD, thrives in large gatherings of people, and is funny. I am an introvert, someone who prefers listening to speaking, hates crowds and is generally quite serious. I panic at the thought of having people over for dinner, but look forward to a simple cup of tea  with a girlfriend. Nathaniel thoroughly enjoys cooking, and has no difficulty creating meals on the fly. I, on the other hand, dread cooking and always follow a recipe.   Since Nathaniel has been on paternity leave he has taken over meals that I traditionally make and taken them to the next level. Pink and blue jobs have definitely begun to blur in this household!

Catching up!

There is so much I could write about that I hardly know where to begin. So often, I sit down to "blog", only to find myself agonizing over my writing rather than sharing my heart.
It is so much easier to write in my journal where my thoughts can spill onto paper unfiltered and uninhibited. The other day I started typing an email and realized that I need to just always pretend that I am writing to a friend. Essentially, that is the point of this blog; to share my life with my friends both near and far.

So here is an attempt to catch you up to speed on the past couple of months:

Amelia and Claire are doing well. Amelia is riding her bike at the BMX park and learning how to shoot a compound bow. She catches at least five frogs a day and loves spending every spare minute of the day spending time with her friends in our backyard. She recently started kindergarten and so far, loves it!

Claire is attending preschool two days a week. and is pleased as pie about it. She adores her baby bother Levi and jumping on the neighbors trampoline. She is a bit more feisty these days but still as affectionate as ever.

Levi is a content baby, nurses like champ and sleeps well at night. I ADORE him. I can't get enough of his soft little body, his smell, his little faces and noises.  I am so glad that I have him. He is seven weeks old and growing like a weed!

I feel like my family is complete now and I have no need/desire to ever be pregnant again. Yippee! Now I just need to reclaim my body.

We enjoyed a full and relaxing summer. While we didn't do nearly as much camping as I would have liked, but we made up for it by spending lots of time at the beach and swimming until we turned into prunes.  Nathaniel and his grandmother picked almost fifty pounds of blackberries and about thirty pounds of blueberries.
